In normal operations such as being beastly to submarines, finding lost
yachts or doing <censored> with its copious surveillance gear no it's
not unusually ugly. But when threatened by enemy fighters, the Nimrod
inflates special sacs on its nose and tail to scare away would-be
predators. This remarkable behaviour is seen here:

It also uses the same technique in non-threat situations as a display of
virility in order to attract a mate. Which is why they're so dammed rare

Good Lord, Charlie Brown. That's just plain nasty! What'd they do, hold a
"Lets make the poor ol' Nimrod even uglier" contest?
Just added insult to injury, I think. I hope someone had the decency to put
a bullet through its head and end its misery.

Well, since folks have taken to locating interesting variants of the Nimrod,
I did some WWW searching myself and found the ultimate in UGLY!
I think it was called the Nimroni-40P. I wonder what the Hell it was used
for, other than as an entry in the "Pimp My Nimrod" contest?

That's pretty much why cousins aren't allowed to marry. I bet that
plane plays a pretty good banjo.

What the Nimrod did to the Comet was a true aviation crime.
